Chinese Farmer Creates a Melon and Watermelon Hybrid

A farmer who grows melons in China’s Anhui province posted photos on social media of odd-looking fruit that resemble a melon and a watermelon at once. The photos have gathered several million views.

The grower had tried to create this hybrid many times, and this time he thinks he is close. He says the “melon-watermelon” still needs work. Some hybrid seeds planted in the field grew into fruit that was half watermelon, half melon, as expected. Other seedlings produced fruit that looked 10% watermelon and 90% melon.
